Turning the wheel of the year with the WI.

As I write watching the corn turn in the fields, and the circle of the year move forward a notch the mind traditionally wanders back over the colourful if sometimes slightly knotted tapestry of the previous months. One such thread was my decision to take a step out to the WI.

A little hesitantly I put a toe in the water.  Over the year I have learned new skills and can now do a passable bit of needle felting, as well as being amazed and intrigued by the skills of others from the Royal Butler to the fascinating journey of the Wiltshire tapestry. I have visited some previously unknown treasures of gardens and spent some pleasant times with new friends made. Lastly but by no means least I have been introduced to the traditional opportunities to support and feel a part of our village life.

I found I was welcomed and accepted for who I am and able to offer as much or little as I wished.  So, with the aid of many we have a spiffing new program for the coming year with old favourites and new. We have hopefully found something for everyone with, for example, An insight into the Conholt Park development, Origami flowers, Reiki and an Introduction to permaculture to name a few. There will, as always, be plenty of time to chat and put the world to rights too.

If this feels like something you would like, pop in, you will be welcome.

‘Log Hives' a talk by Matt Summerville

Do come and enjoy an evening out.

The WI meets on the third Thursday of the month at the Millennium Hall, Vernham Dean. Doors open at 7.15 pm. At 7.30 there will be one or two announcements to do with WI for just a few minutes and then either a speaker, or demonstration, or a social evening will start at about 7.45 pm for approximately an hour. Following this there will be tea/coffee/biscuits (and sometimes cake!) while we talk WI "Business". If you are not a member already you may like to just pop in to one of the evenings - everyone is welcome. If you intend to join the first 2 visits are free. (Your £5 per visit will be refunded.)

There will be no further WI talks or gatherings in the village hall for the foreseeable future due to the Coronavirus.  Hopefully, we will be able to rebook Andy McIndoe in better and safer times to hear him talk to us on “Beautiful English Gardens”.

Our Treasurer and Membership Secretary is Helen Taylor. Tel: 01264 730678
