Welcome to the Neighbourhood Plan page for Whittingham, Callaly and Alnham Parish.
What is a Neighbourhood Plan?
A Neighbourhood Plan is a community-led planning document which allows local people to help shape future development in their area.
It can set out planning policies for things such as:
- where new development may be appropriate
- what kind of development is suitable
- protecting important local green spaces
- supporting heritage, landscape and rural character
- encouraging good design
- identifying local priorities for the future
Once adopted, a Neighbourhood Plan becomes part of the statutory planning framework and must be taken into account when planning applications are decided.
Why might we want one?
Whittingham, Callaly and Alnham Parish covers a large rural area with a distinctive landscape, historic settlements, farms, hamlets, homes, businesses and community spaces.
A Neighbourhood Plan gives the community a formal opportunity to say what matters locally and how future development should be managed.
It does not stop all development, but it can help ensure that development is appropriate, well-designed and reflects the needs and character of the parish.
What is the Steering Group?
The Parish Council has appointed a Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group to help guide the preparation of the plan.
The Steering Group is not a separate decision-making body. Its role is to gather evidence, support consultation, consider community feedback, and make recommendations to the Parish Council.
The Parish Council remains responsible for formal decisions relating to the Neighbourhood Plan.

Getting Involved
Community involvement is essential. As the plan develops, residents, landowners, businesses and local organisations will be invited to give their views.
