BEDFORDSHIRE VPs MATCH REPORT MAY 19th 2024
A very hot afternoon was in prospect for the Bedfordshire VPs match against Dunstable Town
B.C. on May 19th 2024. The start of the match was delayed due to a slight confusion as they
thought it should be 2.30pm and not 2.00pm which resulted in a couple of their players arriving
late. It was agreed that we make it a 5 rink match also we have a break at the halfway stage so
that players can have a rest for 10 minutes which gives everyone a chance to get into some shade
and cool down.
We were one player short due to someone dropping out at the last moment, however we were
fortunate to get a guest player to make up our full compliment. Her name was Marie Crowe and
not only that she has applied to become a member of the VPs which was very encouraging.
Well what an afternoon it proved to be with the first half scores being fairly even, however the
latter half of the match we excelled ourselves with some brilliant bowling thus winning the match
handsomely by a score of 91 - 64.
Some remarkable performances were had especially rink 4 who going into the final end and a shot
down they managed to score 2 and go onto winning their game by a single shot so well done to
them. The Chairmans rink after dropping 7 shots on one end managed to claw back little by little
and with some determination only lost their game by 2 shots. What a fight back.
We did have 2 highest winning rinks with a shot difference of 10 shots . The winner was decided
on number of ends won. The winner was rink 5 with the team being Dave Jones, Marie Crowe,
Peter Lill and majestically skipped by Mick Curtis. An interesting fact is that both Peter and Mick
were on the highest winning rink in our previous match against the Northants Retired Police
Officers last week. It looks as these 2 players have the Midas touch.
The game was played in very good spirit and harmony and to that we owe Dunstable Town our
thanks
We welcomed 2 new bowlers playing today being Alan Ratcliffe and Peter Denton who are both
experienced bowlers and i am sure they are going to be a great asset for the VPs. They both
received mementoes to mark their baptism with our Association.
Another new player who was playing her second game for us today is Anne Baker and she
is proving to be an excellent bowler and hopefully play in plenty more games for us in the future.
To all of them we welcome you to the VPs and hope you enjoy playing for us coupled with
enjoyment and friendship.
The meal after the game was a delicious chicken chasseur followed by viennetta ice cream which
was a credit to Dunstable’s catering staff.
