29TH FEBRUARY 2024 Luton I.B.C

BEDFORDSHIRE VPs MATCH REPORT 29TH FEBRUARY 2024

Luton I.B.C. were our opponents for the fixture played on Sunday 29th February and again we had a high number of available players which is a credit to you all. Luton I.B.C. managed to get 18 players and wanted to play 6 triples despite us offering them additional players to make up rinks. As you can see our team mainly consisted of husbands and wives and it was decided not play them together (“did not want any domestics”). It was also interesting to note that some of the Luton players are also members of the VPs so this added more spice to the game. Luton got off to a flyer and quickly went into a comfortable lead and despite our valiant efforts we could not catch them and they ran out easy winners with a score of 76-104 so our congratulations go to them. We certainly improved in the second half of the game when we started to put our game together but sadly too little too late. The afternoon produced some excellent bowling by both sets of players which certainly did the game of bowls proud, we did manage to accomplish winning on two rinks which they are to be congratulated however the highest winning rink was the dream team and girl power of Christine Ashley Sue Bell and majestically skipped by Fiona Mowe. Well done. The afternoon was most entertaining and certainly enjoyable with plenty of laughs and banter and despite our loss we all went home smiling. The meal provided after the game was absolutely delicious which was beef casserole followed by chocolate brownie with ice cream. It was worth the wait. It was during the speeches that it was announced that one of our members namely Owen Thulborn was today celebrating his “21st” birthday because he is a leap year baby or known as a “Leaper or Leapling”. You can work out his age. Congratulations with our best wishes were given to Owen followed by everyone singing in harmony the traditional “Happy Birthday”. A good ending to a good day.
