What We Do

Further information on what we do

Local Authority

Parish councils are the first tier of local government. We represent residents, support local services, and work to improve community wellbeing. For more details on parish council responsibilities, see the document at the bottom of this page.

Collaborate and Communicate with other Local Authorities

We work closely with Newark and Sherwood District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council. Their representatives are invited to attend our monthly Full Council meetings, and our Clerk liaises with officers to progress local projects and resolve issues.

Allotments

We manage the allotments at Glebe Park.

Balderton Lake

We own and maintain Balderton Lake and are reviewing how best to protect wildlife while supporting Grove Angling Club’s fishing licence.

Balderton Village Centre (Coronation Street)

Balderton Village Centre is owned and managed by the Parish Council and is available for community, business and private hire.

Cemetery

We manage Mount Road Cemetery.

Communications

We produce a twice‑yearly newsletter delivered to all homes and businesses. Our Facebook page provides regular updates, and noticeboards are located at Balderton Village Centre, Balderton Library, Mead Way and Lakeside near Orchid Close.

Consultee

We are consulted on planning applications and other proposals from local authorities and public bodies. We also consult residents when needed.

Defibrillators

We fund supplies for the village’s defibrillators. Newark Community First Aid carries out regular checks. Locations are listed under the Defibrillators tab.

Dog Waste Bins

We own all dog waste bins in Balderton but Newark and Sherwood District Council empties them weekly. To report an issue, use the online form on the NSDC website.

Flooding Assistance

We hold sandbags/Aquasacs for temporary support during forecast flooding. Links to flooding advice and alert sign‑ups are provided below.

Help

If you’re unsure who provides a particular service, visit the Useful Contacts tab or contact the Parish Council office and we’ll help direct you.

Land at Acacia Road

We maintain the small area of land and access path between the field and Acacia Road.

Mallard Green

We own and maintain Mallard Green off Rowan Way.

Meetings

Full Council usually meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month (except August and December). Amenities Committee meets every two months. Meetings are open to the public, with a short forum at the start for residents to raise issues. Agendas and minutes are published on this website and on our noticeboard in the lobby at the Village Centre.

Play field, park and sports facilities (Coronation Street)

We own and maintain these facilities. Contact the Parish Council for enquiries office@baldertonparishcouncil.gov.uk or call 01636 703626.

St Giles Churchyard

St Giles is a closed churchyard. Parish Council staff maintain the site.
