Community First Responders:

The Bishop Monkton Community First Responder Scheme (CFRs) is a Partnership with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS). As authorised volunteers CFRs work as part of a dedicated team linked to the NHS 999 emergency service. The first 15 minutes of many medical emergencies such as a Cardiac Arrest, Heart Attack or Stroke is the vital time when basic life support skills can be used which can double or triple the chances of patient survival.

When a 999 call is received by YAS for Bishop Monkton and the surrounding  area we are alerted to assist  and aim to get there quickly, to start emergency treatment before the Ambulance arrives .

We are not knowingly sent to dangerous situations and receive full support from YAS whilst at the emergency.

Volunteers are trained by YAS and carry equipment such as a defibrillator and oxygen having been trained in CPR skills. We meet at Burton Leonard for a training session every two months.

You do not need previous medical training, just a willingness to volunteer, to be on call from home for just a few hours a week. Individuals can choose the hours they want to fit in with their own lifestyle availability and convenience.

We are a small group at present but with more people more hours can be covered in the village each week. New volunteers are always needed. "With your help we could save a life".

You must be over 18 years old; have your own vehicle and hold a full driving licence.
