The day is almost upon us! This Saturday up to 100 people are expected to turn up at the School Playing Fields with the potatoes they have been growing over the last few months as part of a fundraiser for the village churches.

It’s the Grand Weigh-In for the Great Bishop Monkton Potato Challenge. Earlier in the year people paid £10 for a bucket in which they have been growing potatoes which will be dug out on Saturday. There will be a range of prizes available including for the biggest potato, the heaviest, the most potatoes in a bucket and for potatoes grown by children at the school. The money raised by the Challenge will be split between the Methodist and Anglican churches in the village.

Refreshments and children’s games, including a potato and spoon race, will also be on offer. The event starts at 1pm.
