Welcome to Chillerton & Gatcombe Parish Council on the Isle of Wight
Chillerton and Gatcombe Parish Council (or 'CGPC' for short) is the local tier of government for the villages of Chillerton & Gatcombe on the Isle of Wight.
The Parish Council has responsibility for managing public green spaces (such as the village green and play park), providing input on planning applications and generally advocating and fundraising for the community.
The Council maintains this website, produces a regular newsletter for residents, funds dog bins and other environmental initiatives, and provides grants to community organisations. The Council currently employs a part-time Clerk (for one day a week) who acts as its Chief Executive & Financial Officer.
CGPC is fortunate to have a thriving Community Association: the Chillerton & Gatcombe Community Association within the Parish (the 'CGCA' for short). The CGCA is a registered Charity and undertakes an enormous amount of work on behalf of the local community. The CGCA owns, and operates, both The Gallybagger (the only 'community-run' pub on the Isle of Wight) as well as the Village Hall on Hollow Lane. Every two years the CGCA also organises the Islandwide-acclaimed Scarecrow Festival.
Other significant organisations within the village include the Horticultural Society and Your Parish Matters ('YPM' for short). YPM is an emailed newsletter that provides subscribers with up-to-the-minute news and information relevant to the two villages.
The Horticultural Society organises activities and talks - including the annual Flower Show.
Gatcombe also has a beautiful, thirteenth century church, St Olaves with, reputedly the oldest piece of medieval stained glass on the Island. Every hundred years the wooden effigy of small dog within the church is said to come alive and dance down the church path in the moonlight!
The Council's website supports the activities of all these organisations and provides general information for all Chillertonians, Gatcombers and interested onlookers.

About the Parish
Chillerton and Gatcombe are rural Isle of Wight villages located approximately 3.5 miles south-west of Newport, surrounded by countryside, historic buildings, and scenic walking routes.
The parish is the smallest on the Isle of Wight and contains just over 200 dwellings, ranging from traditional stone cottages and thatched homes to more modern, sympathetically designed properties.
The area includes approximately 25 miles of footpaths, bridleways, and greenways, offering extensive opportunities for walking and enjoying the local landscape.
Local landmarks include St Olave’s Church and the prominent Chillerton Down mast: both well-known features of the Island's skyline
