Cricket Club

Cublington Parish Council Cricket Club

Orchard Ground, Stewkley Road, Cublington, LU7 0LR

Cublington Cricket Club is a thriving village club with a long and proud history, offering opportunities for players of all ages and abilities to enjoy the game.

Club History

Cricket has been played in Cublington for over 150 years, with the first recorded match taking place in 1863 — a two-day game against Swanbourne, reported in the Leighton Buzzard Observer.

The modern club was founded in 1955, and in 1997 a new pavilion was built with support from the National Lottery and Sports Council. The Orchard Ground is now home not only to cricket, but also tennis and a variety of community events. The facility was further enhanced in 2005 with the addition of a scorebox.

In earlier years, friendly matches were played at weekends, and it was not uncommon for the captain to be searching the village on match day to find enough players.

The Club Today

Since the late 1990s, the club has grown significantly and is guided by four core values:

  • Youth & Women’s Cricket Development
  • Community
  • Sustainability
  • Enjoyment

Today, the club hosts around 40 home fixtures each season at Orchard Ground, supported by strong local involvement and successful grant funding.

Youth Cricket

The youth section, established in 1998, is one of the strongest in the area, with nearly 100 young players coached by qualified coaches.

  • Teams compete at Under 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17 levels
  • Regular participation in local Aylesbury competitions
  • Several players have progressed to represent the county

Coaching Schedule:
Indoor sessions: January – April (Sunday afternoons)
Outdoor sessions: April – July (Orchard Ground)

Young players aged 8 and above are welcome, including both girls and boys.

The club also hosts All Stars Cricket, an ECB summer programme for children aged 6–8.

Senior Cricket

Cublington Cricket Club runs:

  • Two Saturday league teams
  • One Sunday friendly side
  • A developing Women’s team

League Teams:
1st XI: Division 4, Four Counties Cricket League
2nd XI: Division 7, Four Counties Cricket League

The Sunday team offers a more social but still competitive format, playing against local sides.

Get Involved

The club is run entirely by dedicated volunteers and welcomes new members from Cublington and surrounding areas.

Whether you’re interested in playing, supporting, or getting involved off the field, you’ll be warmly welcomed.
