Club Competitions
Thank you for all members attending the Datchworth Triples Competition on 5th July 2026. The weather was very kind to us although a little hot for some of us in the afternoon. Thirty members took part in the re-arranged date for this Competition. Due to the forecast of very hot weather on the original scheduled date of 21st June this Competition was re-scheduled to 5th July. As a result, six members were unable to play due to other pre-arranged commitments but eight members put their names forward to play. I took the first six names received and placed these into respective teams trying to maintain the balance. The six members that played were Terry Medcalf, Gill Parsley, Ian Green, Clyde Martindill, Bernadette Martindill and Caroline Bartlett and I thank them for responding. Two additional members also put their names forward but did not play on the day, but i equally thank both Gary Bartlett and Alan Veitch for doing so and hope they put their names forward and are selected for games in the future.
Four games were played in the morning including one preliminary round and three quarter-finals. Two further games were played in the afternoon including one quarter final and one semi final. All of the games appeared competitive throughout the day.
The winners in the one completed semi-final were Rachael Jones, Richard Harper and Steve Chamberlain who beat Gill Parsley, Caroline Bartlett and Jim Smith by a single shot on the last end 22 - 21
There remains one semi-final still to be played before the finals day. This is between Jean Lyme, Clyde Martindill & Graham Akers and Jan Smith, Julian Hales & Les Parsley. I will leave Graham & Les to play this game with the respective teams by no later than 8th August and to notify me of the result.
My thanks to the Green Team for the work they’ve done to prepare the green for the competition. Everyone commented on how well the green played.
My thanks also to Barbara and others in providing rolls, tea etc on the day and to the bar staff who kept us served with drinks, although i thought that Richard Harper putting a wasp in my beer while we were playing was a little unsportsmanlike - only joking Richard.
My thanks also to everyone else who assisted me on the day.
Regards,
Jim Smith
