Match report for the w/e 2nd August

A game of bowls is never over until the last bowl has been delivered. Never has this been truer than a game against Ware, home and away, on Thursday evening playing in the Ranson Cup. When I left the club on Thursday we were comfortably in the lead with a score of 13 shots to 7. After that Peter Hills and his team were unable to overcome a determined Ware side who proceeded to win the next six ends to draw the game on the 17th end and scoring the necessary one shot to win the game on the final end. It was a similar story on the away match where Jim Smith was leading his team winning, 16 shots to 13 on the fourteenth end. Ware then won the rest of the ends eventually beating us 18 shots to 16. A close match which our two captains won’t forget in a hurry.😟

In the mens County League game on Friday 31st we had an excellent win against Sawbridgeworth winning on both rinks by 42 shots to 24. Top rink was Keith Smith, Graham Akers, Derek Henley and skip Peter Hills. 🙌

On the same evening our ladies success continued in the EHBL County League game drawing against a very competitive Buntingford side. In a similar story to the above report we were ahead 19 shots to 8 up until the 12th end when our opponents pulled all the stops out and won all but one of the next six ends drawing the game 20 shots to both clubs. Jan Smith commented that a score of six shots by Buntingford on the fourteenth end was very damaging. Nevertheless we should congratulate our ladies team of Janet Akers, Maureen Blunt, Chris Hills and skip Jan Smith, on a commendable draw.👌 As things stand the ladies may have reached the final of the East Area County Finals but Steve is still waiting to hear the outcome of another match. Watch this space.👀🤞

On Saturday 1st August we were successful in the SDMBL playing the Three Horseshoes, winning overall on all three rinks 61 shots to 35. The top rink for Datchworth was Terry Metcalf, Chris Hills, Julian Hales and skip Graham Akers.👌👏

It’s a shame to finish on loss for Datchworth in a friendly against Rye Park. Unfortunately we lost on four of the five rinks losing 117 shots to 62. Well done to Jean Lyme, Janet Akers and skip Richard Brewster winning on their rink.👏
