Denmead Horticultural Society – Pumpkin Show & AGM

Pumpkin Show
This year we held our Pumpkin Show in Denmead Community Centre on Thursday 30th October.

As the evening got under way many trolleys and barrows rolled in containing massive pumpkins and the display tables quickly started to groan under the weight of exhibits - cakes, pies, chutneys, vegetable animals and carved pumpkins, many of which were created by children.
Despite the warm, dry summer a good number of pumpkins and marrows were entered In the relevant classes.

The winning Pumpkin tipped the scales at 24.68 kgs, with the heaviest Marrow at 6.44kgs, and heaviest Apple at just under half a kilo.
Fun fact: In 2025, the Guiness Book of Records recorded the heaviest Pumpkin at a whopping 1278kgs…. grown in the New Forest, we have a little way to go….
Our crafting table was well attended by the children, where they iced spooky biscuits and coloured in paper pumpkin houses, many of them also in fancy dress.
Seasonal refreshments were enjoyed.

Our AGM was held at All Saints Church Hall on Tuesday 4th November.

The meeting was opened by our President, she introduced each committee member in turn, who went on to explained their role within the Society and report on events and Shows through the year.
The Flower of the Month shield was presented to Jenny Hall, who had achieved the highest number of points.
The formalities were followed by a lovely social event, when we enjoyed cheese, artisan breads, homemade chutneys/pickles and wine!

Our website lists forthcoming speakers, events and show schedules,

You can see our list of talks on our programme page

Guests always welcome (£2.00). Doors open at 7.15pm when refreshments are served. The meeting starts at 7.30pm.
