The Parish Council

Parish Councils are the first tier of local government and closest to the communities they serve. They are elected bodies with discretionary powers laid down by government to represent their communities and provide services to them. Councils establish policies for action and decide how monies will be raised and spent on behalf of the community.

Dummer Parish Council is made up of 5 councillors who have been elected. Elections take place every four years. The Council is non-party political and the post is unpaid and councillors give their time on a voluntary basis. There are monthly meetings, which are open to the public, with time allowed for public questions and comment.

The responsibilities of the Parish Council include maintaining open spaces within the village; public footpaths; litter; bus shelters, benches and planning issues for buildings and trees. The Parish Council is a consultee and the final decision lies with the Planning Authority which is Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. Dummer Parish Council welcomes dialogue prior to the submitting of a planning application.

The Parish Council also works closely with the District and County Councils with regard to traffic management, road safety and highway maintenance and the police with regard to neighbourhood policing.

Remember you can call the Parish Clerk or any of the Parish Councillors to discuss problems or comment on Parish issues or contact us.
