Annual Governance and Accountability Return (AGAR)

All parish councils are required to maintain appropriate systems of financial control and accountability. The Council's financial year runs from 1 April to 31 March.

At the end of each financial year, the Council completes the relevant Annual Governance and Accountability Return (AGAR), which includes the Annual Internal Audit Report, Annual Governance Statement and Accounting Statements.

Smaller authorities where the higher of gross annual income or gross annual expenditure does not exceed £25,000 may, subject to meeting the qualifying criteria, certify themselves as exempt from a limited assurance review by the external auditor.

The Transparency Code for Smaller Authorities also requires qualifying smaller authorities to publish specified financial and governance information online, helping local electors to understand how public money is managed and spent.
