Planning Matters

Parish Councils are statutory consultees in the planning process and must be notified of all planning applications, together with any subsequent amendments, within the parish. The Council may submit observations on such applications; however, these must be agreed collectively at a duly convened public meeting and are made in the same manner as comments from any member of the public.

During the meeting’s Public Participation session, members of the public may express support, raise objections, or provide comments on planning applications. They may not participate in the Council’s formal deliberations, although the Chair may invite them to clarify specific points where necessary.

Following the meeting, the Parish Clerk submits the Council’s agreed comments in writing to the relevant planning authority.

Prior to consideration at the meeting, Councillors review all plans, forms, and supporting documentation associated with each application. They may also seek the views of statutory bodies such as English Heritage, the Environment Agency, and the Highway Authority. Planning authorities are generally required to act in accordance with the advice provided by these bodies.
