Some sad news to start with this week, Life Member Thelma Portch passed away quietly in her sleep on Thursday, a card will be sent to her daughters but I’m told there will not be a funeral but a private cremation will take place with a remembrance get together at a later date.

Ann Greek has been in hospital for a few days but is due home today, Today was her 85th Birthday so I called round this morning with a card and some roses. I meet her neighbour who kindly took the roses and in to the house so they would be there when Ann got home.

This week the mens 55’s played at home with a win over Chudleigh, they are currently 5th in the league, keep it up gents.

The ladies didn’t fair so well at Bovey Tracey losing on both rinks.

Thursday saw a change in fortunes for the Riviera League against Brixham St Mary, we won on all 3 rinks  77 - 31 over all, well done everyone.

Next week's fixtures are , Ladies league at home against Ilsington and Riviera league away to Victoria. The Gents have a week off.

There is NO PARKING at all this week due to it being carnival week.

That’s all for this week.

12th July 2026

Hi Everyone

Well it’s been extremely hot this week which made playing matches uncomfortable, but we carried on and did our best.

The Gents 55’s played to matches week Monday at Bitton Park and Wednesday at Kingsteignton, sadly they narrowly lost both matches.

In the Riviera League we played at Marldon where we had a overwhelming win 52 - 29 , due to the heat it was agreed at the start to play 14 ends instead of 18 and score 1 on the first 2 ends rather than play 2 trial ends.

This week's planned matches are,   Gents 55s on Wednesday at home to Starcross  and Thursdays Riviera away at Babbacombe. No match for the ladies again this week, the large gap was caused when 2 clubs pulled out of the league at the last minute.

With the continuing hot weather Bowls England have issued new guidelines thwe should all be aware of, I attach a copy but basically keep the number of ends played to 14 maximum and ensure you use shade where available and drink plenty of water. Captains please read the guidelines as it could affect your league matches.

Internal competitions are progressing, but with the weather as it is the play by dates are going to more flexible so all competitions now have a finals play by date of 20th September this will not be extended again. Please remember that it the person or pair named second on the list that should make the arrangement to play .

The list is up for the Dennis Squires Cup which will be played on 26th July at 2pm with a cream tea and raffle at half time. If you can’t get to the club and want to play let me know and I’ll add you to the list.

Malcolm has been busy growing Forget -me -nots from seed to raise money for Alzheimers  Society , they are in the club house with a tub for donations, please support his efforts for this worthy cause.

With Malcolm out of action now while he has his long awaited foot operation we need members to help at roll ups with cleaning the green of bird mess and setting up rinks (2 is usually enough at the moment) and if no one has started collecting rink fees please write your name in the pink book (which is on the table to the left of the serving hatch) and leave correct money on the table please someone will be along to deal with it.

I have had an update from Kaye regarding Maurice;

'Hi Mary

It is now almost 7 weeks since the hip operation and Maurice is now making good progress after a few difficult challenges. He has started walking around the block to build up his confidence in the hip which should help him walk across the park to the bowling club. We were planning to have a trial visit last Tuesday evening but it was cancelled unfortunately. The other hip is expected to be replaced before Christmas.

Kaye'

Parking is available at the following times only

Monday afternoon

Tuesday Morning clear by 12.30

Wednesday visitors only on the right

Due to the Garden show at the weekend the car park will not be available Friday Saturday or Sunday and the club will be closed on the Saturday as access is blocked by show tents.

Have a good week

Mary
