The last game of the third round of the Men's Championship saw a "nip and tuck" game between John Smith and Bob Russell. The old guard against the new guard. The wippersnapper against the long in the tooth old  dog. Whatever metaphor you can think to deploy in an article, the author is desparately trying to do so. The jovial noise of Pete Curnock's 80th birthday party did not distract our two valiant gladiators from their fight for survival. Indeed, the two combatants went down to to the wire, not the "The Wire" as in Idris Elba but the actual wire for real.

John was leading 20-19 , Bob was holding 2 and John produced the shot of his life (actually not the shot of his life but it was a good shot) to end up holding one to win.

Well done Bob for challenging John throughout the game. It was pleasing to see a novice putting in a good performance. Thank you to Ann for marking.

The next round of the Club Competitions are due to be completed by 3rd September.
