Match Report: Friendly at Mitcham – Saturday 17th May
Norbury Bowling Club
Originally meant to be a home match, we switched in case the mayor paid a visit — which he didn’t (his loss!) — but the club was so welcoming it wasn’t a problem at all. The sun was out, there were two young girls cheering from the sidelines, and a wee dog called Rusty keeping an eye on things. It had a real family feel.
Norbury played two triples and a singles. Both triples came from behind in the penultimate end to secure wins — one finishing 19–16 after a tight final end, the other 18–15. The singles… well, let’s just say it was a tough game. We’ve agreed not to name names, but we’re all very proud of their effort (and they still got their tea and biscuits).
The mayor might not have turned up, but a local police officer stuck their head in just after the match. Had one team robbed the other of a win? Who knows. The overall score of this friendly didn’t make it into my reporter’s notebook :)
Thanks to Mitcham for hosting such a lovely afternoon.
