Open Weekend 2026

Starting the season with a bang!

The balloons were up, the rinks were set, and now all we needed were some guests. We’d put flyers in shops and on notice boards, posted on Facebook, and emailed local schools, councillors and businesses, but would anyone actually turn up?

With the green looking pristine, thanks to the hard work of our members and family, we made good use of the quiet start by dusting off the cobwebs and reminding ourselves how to play bowls. But it didn’t stay quiet for long. Guests started to arrive and we quickly switched to welcoming, demoing and coaching.

As more people came through the gates, more and more club members jumped in to help. It was busy from then on. And just when we were almost flat out, we looked up to see a line of around 15 people walking into the grounds! A local walking group had diverted from their usual route to pay us a visit! We’re hoping to welcome them back on future walks.

The weather was glorious, and hot, and the refreshments were very welcome. As well as playing bowls, we shared stories of our social events and hopes for the club’s future. As always, it was surprising how few people had heard of us before, which is a good reminder to keep spreading the word.

On Sunday, we were almost as busy, just without the walking group! Instead, we were lucky to have a visit from local councillor Appu Srinivasan, who had a go at bowls and was very impressed with the club. He has offered to help us where he can, so that was a useful contact to make. More good weather, more fantastic refreshments and more bowls. And of course, our raffle!

With the weekend a huge success, we now look forward to welcoming new members and having a fantastic new season!
