Competitions

Competitions within the Club

The first competition in the club was called the 'Aggregate' and this was played for a rose bowl donated by Joyce Jefferies, a founder member. This is now played on Monday evenings and is open on a casual basis to all bowlers. The winner is the person who accumulates most shots from their best 8 games during the season.

Knock‑Out competitions are played from June to September. These include Men's Singles, Men's Singles handicap, Men's two wood, Ladies Singles, Ladies two wood, mixed Pairs, nominated Pairs, also a Pairs and a Triple decided by a draw. There is also the Jim Jones Singles competition, restricted to members who have not won a Club trophy, and the Rose MacDiarmid competition for Senior Citizens, which is played in the afternoons.

The Hodkinson Shield was presented to the Club in memory of Marie Hodkinson, by her daughter Brenda Winskill, for a match between the Men and the Ladies, with six rinks each, the winners being the team with the most shots overall.

The Open Floodlight Competition is open to any teams of four, with a least one member of the opposite sex. The Round Robin Matches played evenings during a week in September, with cash awards to the winners. We also have the Rover floodlit week.

In addition, we hold one‑day competitions:

The Jim Pope ‑ four wood Singles. First to win 15 shots.

The Sidney and Doris Belk Competition ‑ two wood Pairs.

County Competitions, S & D Competitions

For the more ambitious bowlers, there are knock‑out competitions held at County and District level for Singles, Pairs, Triples and Rinks. Success in the County competitions can lead to the All England Finals.

Other Matches

Mixed Friendly matches are shown on the Fixture Card. During the course of the season, other matches include the President versus Captain's teams and drives are held occasionally for players interested in playing fun events.
