Explanation of Club Competitions

 

EXPLANATION OF ALL CLUB COMPETITIONS
(With entries at start of season)

 

 

1.  MENS SINGLES.                           Cup Presented by Wessex Bowl (Prop. Len Smith Member)
Knock Out Singles Competition for Men.          Runner Up ... Cup in memory of Harry Phillips (Member)
Draw for opponents and rounds will be made on Competition Draw Evening….Game to consist of 21 shots ...4 woods each. Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round, with the final on Finals Day.

2.  LADIES SINGLES.                                    In Memory of Madeleine Tidmarsh the wife of local Minister
Same as above, but for the Ladies.

3.  MEN’S TWO WOOD.                    Presented by George Deacon (Jeweler)
Knock Out Two Wood Singles Competition for Men Draw for opponents and rounds will be made on Competition Draw Evening….Game to consist of 21 ends.. 2 woods each. Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round, with the final on Finals Day.

4.  LADIES TWO WOOD.                  White Rose Cup presented by George Lockwood (Member)
Same as above, but for the Ladies

5.  CLUB PAIRS.                                Presented by Ecoalarm Ltd
Knock Out Pairs Competition for all members. Enter as an individual, draw for partners, will be made on Competition Draw Evening. ...Game to consist of 18 ends ...4 woods each. Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round, with the final on Finals Day.

6.  ALAN LANE MIXED PAIRS.        In memory of Alan Lane (Member)
Knock Out Mixed Pairs Competition for all members Enter as a Mixed Pair, the draw for opponents will be made on Competition Draw Evening….Game to consist of 18 ends ...4 woods each. Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round, with the final on Finals Day.

7.  COUNCIL NOMINATED PAIRS.  Presented by Shrivenham Parish Council
Knock Out Pairs Competition for all members. Enter as a nominated pair.(i.e. 2 Gents, 2 Ladies or Mixed) the draw for opponents will be made on Competition Draw Evening. Game to consist of 18 ends ...4 woods each. Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round, with the final on Finals Day.

8.  JIM JONES (NEVER WON).         In memory of Jim Jones (Member)
Knock Out Singles Competition for all members who have not won a Major Club Competition,(Numbered 1 to 12). Draw for opponents and rounds will be made around Jun 30th to allow any new members joining on Open Day to enter a competition….Game to consist of 21 shots ...4 woods each. Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round, with the final on Finals Day.

9.  ROSE McDIARMID                       In memory (Member)
Knock Out Singles Competition for Ladies over 60, and Men over 65. before the 1st April Draw for opponents and rounds will be made on Competition Draw Evening….Game to consist of 21 shots ...4 woods each. Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round played afternoons only, with the final on Finals Day.

10.  CLUB TRIPLES.                          Presented by Chris Haste (Member)
Knock Out Triples Competition for all members Enter as an individual, draw for partners will be made on Competition Draw Evening….Game to consist of 18 ends ....3 woods each. Early rounds to be played on a specific day, set aside for the purpose of obtaining four semi-finalists, to be played on Friday evening later in the season, with the final on Finals Day.

11.  MEN’S HANDICAP                     White Rose Tankard in memory of George Lockwood (Member)
Knock Out Singles Competition with individual handicaps for Men. Runner Up ... George Lockwood Tankard in memory of
Draw for opponents and rounds will be made on Competition Draw Evening Game to consist of 21 shots, with the lowest handicap member starting on the difference between handicaps  ...4 woods each.   Handicaps will be decided by the Handicap Sub-Committee Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round, with the final on Finals Day.

12.  MIXED HANDICAP                     Average Cup presented by the Committee
Knock Out Mixed Singles Competition with individual handicaps for Men and Ladies
Draw for opponents and rounds will be made on Competition Draw Evening Game to consist of 21 shots, with the lowest handicap member starting on the difference between handicaps  ...4 woods each.   Handicaps will be decided by the Handicap Sub-Committee Arrange games by mutual agreement before the closing date of each round, with the final on Finals Day.

OTHER COMPETITIONS

JIM POPE COMPETITION                             Presented by a member and local copper Knock Out Mixed Singles …. Played to a finish …. 15 Shots ... 4 Woods …. Enter as an Individual ….Drawn at advertised starting time

S&D BELK COMPETITION                            In memory of Sidney & Doris Belk (Members) Knock Out Two Wood Pairs Competition …. Enter as an Individual ….Played to a finish …. Best of Three Sets of Seven Ends ….  Drawn at advertised starting time.

FRIDAY HANDICAP TRIPLES                         Games every Friday Evening …. Enter as a Team of Four/Five playing Triples each time. Each triple playing on the day will add up their individual handicaps.  The difference between the 2 triple teams playing each other will be awarded as shots to the lowest handicapped team at the start of play.

RON WALKLEY ROVER CUP                         Presented by Ron through donation from Contractors in Rover Car Factory
League ‘Round Robin’ Competition …. Played under floodlights every evening throughout the scheduled week …. Enter as an individual  Drawn on the Friday Evening before the scheduled week.

BETTYJOE GALA DAY                                     In memory of Betty & Joe Dixon (Members)  ‘Round Robin’ Competition …. Gala Day type of game, starting at 2.30. with a Special Tea … Enter as an individual. Drawn on the Friday Evening before, the scheduled date.

HODKINSON SHIELD         The Hodkinson Shield was presented to the Club in memory of Marie Hodkinson, by her daughter Brenda Winskill, for a match between the Men and the Ladies, with six rinks each, the winners being the team with the most shots overall.
