North Clifton School

North Clifton Primary School is a small school with big ideas. At North Clifton it is our vision that all children will become independent learners. We believe in nurturing their passion, encouraging their individuality and personalising their learning. We believe that children who take ownership of their learning will achieve their very best. Through the dedication of the staff, the support of the family and the drive of the children, all at North Clifton will challenge themselves and realise their full potential.  

North Clifton County Primary School was built in 1876 for 70 children with an additional classroom built in 1887.  It was built close to St. Georges Church and is about halfway between the villages of North and South Clifton.  Pupil numbers have varied greatly over the years, but the class sizes are between 10 and 15, allowing staff to meet the needs of all children on a personalised level.

2026 Ofsted Inspection

We were graded as Strong in Attendance and Behaviour, Inclusion, Leadership and Governance, and Personal Development and Well-being, with Expected in Achievement, Curriculum, and Teaching.

Under the new Ofsted framework, it is rare for schools to achieve 'Strong' and we are pleased that the report is a true reflection of the dedication of our staff, the hard work of our children and the unwavering support of parents/carers. 

The inspection team highlighted several strengths, including:

• the school’s kind and caring environment, in which pupils thoroughly enjoy coming to school;
• the high expectations the school has for pupils’ behaviour;
• the fact that pupils are the school’s best advocates;
• the highly aspirational approach of our leaders;
• the considerable support provided by governors; and
• the unanimous appreciation of the school’s work expressed by parents
