Heat Imaging Camera

A heat (or thermal) imaging camera shows the temperature of a surfaces as an image.

When used inside and outside a home, places where heat is escaping show as bright colours.  Eliminating bright colours means eliminating heat loss and that leads to reduced energy costs and a lower carbon footprint.

Sustainable Bourne Valley  has purchased a Huepar thermal imaging camera.

The camera is an Huepar HTi80P The camera is an Huepar HTi80P

Using the Camera

The camera is very easy to use; you just press the on button on the top to switch it on and point it at the areas of your home you want to investigate. The screen will show a live view of the area's temperature. Warmer areas show up as brighter yellows and reds, colder areas show up as darker blues and blacks.  You can then capture still images which will help show the impact of any changes you make.

For best results, your home should be warm and the outside weather cold. It also helps if you use the camera at night so it is not affected by sunlight coming in through windows.

There is an good article on the BBC here that shows what to expect when using the camera and gives some suggestions on solving insulation problems you find.

To drive a benefit for the whole community, we need to record findings on a form: here. All findings will be used collectively for the Bourne Valley and individual results will be kept private and secure.

Book the Camera

To book the heat imaging camera, email nikcross@rensmart.com

The camera can be borrowed for up to three days at a time with a suggested donation of £5 to the Sustainable Bourne Valley group.

Once a booking date has been agreed, the camera can be picked up from Nik's house, 1 Breach Farm Cottages, St Mary Bourne, SP11 6DH.

Once you have finished with the camera, it can be returned to the same address. Any images recorded on the camera will be removed and, if you wish, they can be emailed to you. No copies of any images will be kept. The camera will then be charged ready for the next person on the booking list.
