Cosy Homes Bourne Valley

Cosy Homes Bourne Valley is a new community project for the Bourne Valley in 2022.

The climate emergency seems remote but there is plenty that can be done locally and individually.  Poorly insulated homes can lose up to £1 for every £3 spent on heating.  Although it is good for reindeer to warm their hooves, it's not good for us to heat the sky.

Cosy Homes Bourne Valley is a local initiative to identify heat loss from your home, suggest ways to improve the cosiness of your home and then identify local businesses that can help you make the changes.

Would you like to improve the energy efficiency of your home, save yourself some money and help the environment at the same time?

Cosy Homes Bourne Valley would like to help you! We have purchased a thermal imaging camera which you can borrow for a voluntary contribution of £5.

Step 1: Identify Heat Leaks

Scan for cold spots in your home using SBV's new digital heat imaging camera.

Our camera can be borrowed for 3 days in return for a £5 voluntary contribution to SBV

The details for borrowing and using the camera can be found here.

We also encourage people borrowing the camera to report their findings on an online form, where the results from the project will be collated and used to perform step 4.

Step 2: Identify solutions

Dependent on the results, we have identified a range of solutions and a list of local businesses that could help with these.  The solutions might be actions you can take yourself or actions that need more investment.  Sustainability is about maintaining a local economy to reduce travel and transport impact.

Step 3: Install and remeasure

We expect there to be a financial and climate benefit to making these improvements. It would be helpful once you have installed the identified solutions to remeasure in order to verify the difference, before and after installation.  SBV and Cosy Homes would like to track these changes in order to produce a view of energy efficiency in the Bourne Valley.

Step 4: Produce a view of the state of insulation in the valley

Information collected from use of the camera will be used to inform group purchasing if that is seen as something that would be helpful.
