WI Meetings

Our monthly meetings run for a couple of hours starting with a rendition of Jerusalem quickly followed by the monthly business which includes details of upcoming events organised by our own group and through the county federation.

Next comes the main event of the evening with tea / coffee and biscuits and time to chat to friends afterwards.

We don’t have a formal meeting in August as this is the time for our annual outing. In the past few years we have visited Cosworth Hall near Doncaster, Renishaw Hall near Chesterfield and had a lovely cruise with lunch on board a canal boat from Whaley Bridge in Derbyshire.

Outside of the monthly meetings we have a darts team who take part in the Nottinghamshire Federation WI Darts League - (home matches are played at the Lord Nelson pub). We managed to get to the final last year and are always looking for new team members.

We hope to be starting a theatre group in the New Year.

Together with the WI's from Egmanton, East Markham, Weston and Laxton we form the River Group and meet twice a year - once for a Group Meeting with a speaker or other entertainment, a competition and refreshments.  In 2018 we were entertained by Jim Wright the son of the famous vet Donald Sinclair known to everyone as James Herriott.  Past events have included a talk and cookery demonstration from the ‘Ladies in Pigs’ and a performance by the local U3A Ukulele band.

There is also a Group Carol Service held at different locations each year in December.

Coronavirus (Covid-19)

Due to the current situation we are all facing, we have taken the decision to cancel the next

four meetings scheduled for April 2nd, May 7th, June 4th

and July 2nd.  We hope to recommence in September as usual.
