Chairman's Updates

Tendring Parish Council News.

Looks a lot like winter at the moment,as I write this snow is on the ground and the roads are icy. Please check up on each other when conditions are hazardous. Hopefully as the days draw out we will see the return of higher temperatures.

I would like to thank all the Parish Councillors who erected and dismantled the lights at the Memorial garden. I inadvertently picked the coldest day of the year for this to be done! Thanks also to Keith Appleby and Nick Brattan who also helped us out. It was quite satisfying to put the lights away and welcome in the remainder of the year.

We scheduled our Parish Council meeting for the beginning of January to allow us to set the precept. We have now completed this process and planned to make no increase to the Parish Council part of the Council tax. However, the portion which is set by Tendring District Council may change!

Our February meeting will be preceded by a presentation by Mr Gary Guiver on behalf of the District Council. He will be giving us details of the proposed Local Plan which will determine development in the area over many years. This will include housing numbers and locations and employment opportunities as well as details of infrastructure strategies. It is envisaged that the presentation will include a question and answer section where you can put your thoughts to him.

Information can be found in this link which consists of a committee report,a map of the proposed allocations and a version of the presentation given by Gary Guiver and Paul Woods. A recording of the meeting can also be found  and I would suggest that you watch the opening part where the context for the Local Plan and new housing allocations is given and then jump through to the areas of interest Tendring Heath,Horsley Cross,Weeley and Thorpe.

Remember that if you do not get involved in this consultation your views will not be taken into consideration-indeed it could make us a target for future development if apathy is to be the case. I can't stress enough the importance of making your views heard during this consultation. The meeting will be held at 7.00pm in the Village hall Monday 23rd February.

The Council received a number of planning applications to consider this month. Firstly , application 25/01606 which was a single storey extension to Fairview at Glebe Place. The Council voted to approve this application.  Application 25/01772 asked for the removal of agricultural occupation  restriction for the property at The New House,Crow Lane ,this was also approved, as was the application 25/01844 to trim an oak tree that was obstructing a neighbours view at Oak House,Chapel Lane. Application 25/01765 the erection of a replacement dwelling at Gooses farm had been previously passed by the District Council a number of years ago and so it was felt that it was appropriate to pass this one too. However application 25/01712 a loft conversion of a cart lodge to create a first floor annex and raised roof at Bramble Lodge was called into the Planning committee as we had some concerns about access and viability.

The profits achieved for the Ghostly Tales event and the Christmas Carol service refreshments are now in. Overall, we achieved a sum of over £400. This was distributed to Walton foodbank, Village Toddler group, TYGERS and Homes4 Heros. Each organisation received £100 each. Thank you to all of you who supported us in raising this money. I am sure it will be gratefully received and help them to support our Community.

The Parish Council have now agreed to erect a further piece of equipment at Goose Green play area. This time it will be consist of a slide ,bridge and small climbing wall. It will be suitable for toddlers and so expand the provision for the Children and families who use this facility. Hopefully it will be installed before the Summer .There will also be signage erected at the Park to advise that  all the equipment is only suitable for under 12 year olds. This was necessary following the damage to equipment by older children and adults using the equipment.

The  next Parish Council meeting will be

Monday 23rd February at 7.00pm in the Village hall.

This will include a presentation on the Local Plan detailling proposals to build new homes both within and alongside our Village. All are welcome to attend and I would urge you to participate in this opportunity to influence the policies for future development.

Jill Brattan

Chair of Tendring Parish Council.
