Work Parties

Green space and nature reserve work parties are the core of our ongoing weekly activity.

We are constantly working hard to enhance Gainsborough's environment where wildlife thrives and people benefit. Seasonal tasks vary but have included:

  • creating and tending a community orchard next to Warren Wood School
  • planting ornamental flower displays on Ashcroft Green
  • seeding an urban wildflower meadow on the verges of the A631 along Thorndike Way
  • cutting and raking hay to conserve wildflowers and butterflies on Scouts Hill
  • clearing brambles from footpaths
  • laying native hedgerows for birds and pollinators
  • collecting litter that has accumulated over many years

Three seasons of successful community food gardening

Until the end of summer 2026, we invested a lot of time in community food growing in the garden at x-church.  This created a much-loved family atmosphere where local residents without their own gardens could grow their own food, build skills, improve their English and socialise in a supportive environment.  Together is now shifting its focus onto community green space enhancement. So for those who wish to continue food growing, we are currently working with a local allotment owner to make small plots available.

The x-church garden is now planned to be a space for wildflower and garden flower propagation, run by volunteers, that will supply green space enhancement projects around the town.
