Visit Washington History Society's latest exhibition at the Millennium Centre, Concord NE37 2QD which commemorates the three day strike in November 1917 by pupils of Washington and Usworth schools. They were protesting at the refusal of the Durham Education Committee's refusal to feed them under the provisions of the Food Acts, after their father's wages fell as coal mining shifts were cut.

The exhibition tells the story of the strike, including the testimony of Albert Walmsley who took part, and includes press cuttings and headteacher logs from the time.
