The King's Garden Party May 2023

On Bank Holiday Monday 8th May 2023 (1-4pm), to celebrate the new King’s Coronation the Whixall Social Centre Committee held a “King’s Garden Party” for 180 local residents at the Social Centre.  Just like a garden party being held at Buckingham Palace we provided tea and sandwiches, homemade cakes and locally made ice cream for our guests.  All guests applied for free tickets for the event through a Social Centre online event site.  We also held a children’s “King and Queen” fancy dress competition as well as a competition for best ladies’ hat.  Throughout the day we had military music and garden party music piped around the event to add to the overall atmosphere.  The Social Centre Committee decided to make this a free event for villagers and we we used our own funds to cover all costs on the day.  As part of the event, we also commissioned a “Coronation Gate” made by Mr Adrian Reynolds, a local blacksmith from Crudington and this was unveiled by our guest of honour, Mrs Helen Morgan MP for North Shropshire. The coronation of King Charles was a special day for the country and we wanted to celebrate it as best we could and our new, and impressive, gate will be a  permanent reminder of the event.

It was a fabulous day and the weather was kind to us throughout.  All who attended thoroughly enjoyed the Garden Party - Whixall certainly celebrated the King's Coronation with style and tradition.
