Whixall Dog Show 2022 Report and Phots

The Social Centre is at the heart of Whixall village and as such is an important focal point for all.  The Social Centre is a charity and therefore all proceeds from events are used in the maintenance and upkeep of the building.  The Dog Show is our biggest event and brings in the most funds for us.  All the classes were kindly sponsored by local businesses and companies from Whixall, Whitchurch, Wem and the surrounding area meaning placed dogs in each class receives a prize.  This involvement from local businesses really adds to the community and local feel and contribution to the show as a whole.  We also have stalls from local small craft businesses at the event.

This year we were extremely fortunate enough to have as our Judge -  Mr Frank Kane.  Frank has been involved in the Dog Show World since a schoolboy in 1960, showing his first Cocker Spaniel.  Since then, he has been involved in Cockers, American Cockers and Sealyham Terriers. First approved to award Challenge Certificates in 1974, Frank has now progressed to becoming one of the UK’s top judges, having judged the Gundog Group at Crufts in 2001 and Crufts Best in Show in 2012.  Frank is also an author and co-author of several books and is a frequent contributor to the canine press, as well as commentating during the broadcasting of Crufts Dog Show on Channel 4.

His services as a judge are now in great demand worldwide, with Frank being recognised by the FCI, the international canine body. He will be judging at a dog show in Boston, USA at one of biggest dog shows in America, and he flew out to the US the day after our show!  It is therefore a great honour for us that he took time out of his busy show schedule to judge at our village dog show - which is quite a coup for us considering his great standing within the dog world.  We are aiming to make the Whixall Companion Dog Show the premier Companion Dog Show in Shropshire.  "The village dog show that likes to think big"

It was a great day for all and many came from all over to the show to be judged under Mr Kane.  The sun shined and even the RAF Red Arrows made an appearance over the Whixall sky (on their way to RAF Cosford Air show!).  Frank really enjoyed his day in Whixall and meeting all the competitors and their dogs in the classes - he wished us luck with the dog show in the future and with the Social Centre, which he knows is very important to the village. The Social Centre Committee would like to thank Frank for coming and all the local businesses for their sponsorship in both the classes and raffle and particular thanks all those who came and participated in the "Biggest little dog show in Shropshire"
