Blodeuglwm: ysgrifau i anrhydeddu Lionel Madden / essays in honour of Lionel Madden, (Aberystwyth Bibliographical Group, 2016).

Since coming to Aberystwyth in 1973 Dr. Lionel Madden has contributed much to the life of the area and to Welsh life in general.  At the College of Librarianship Wales he taught many who went on to enjoy successful careers in libraries and in other fields.  In 1987 he was appointed Keeper of Printed Books at the National Library of Wales and served as Librarian from 1994 until his retirement in 1998.  He was also Chairman of the Library and Information Services Council (Wales) and of the Welsh Books Council.  Lionel has made a notable contribution to the work of several voluntary bodies, including Capel: the Chapels Heritage Society; Ceredigion Museum, and the Aberystwyth Bibliographical Group.  He has written extensively on the Wesleyan tradition in Wales, and edited the yearly periodical Bathafarn Bach on behalf of the Welsh Wesleyan History Society.  His mastery of Welsh is widely admired: he has been very supportive of Welsh-language life, and was admitted to the White Robe of the Gorsedd of Bards.

As a token of admiration and appreciation of Lionel’s contribution as its Chairman from 2006-2018, the Aberystwyth Bibliographical Group published a volume of essays by some of his friends in 2016.  The volume contains twelve essays, six in Welsh and six in English, together with a short appreciation and a bibliography of Lionel’s published writings.  The contributors are: Mary Burdett-Jones, Helen Davies, Diana Dixon, Glyn Tegai Hughes, Daniel Huws, Philip Henry Jones, R. Brinley Jones, Huw Owen, Brynley F. Roberts, David G. Selwyn, David Stoker and Huw Walters.

Copies are available from the Secretary at £12.95 for members or £15.00 for non-members.
