Kangaroo League
An Aussie Pairs event took place for the first time in 2025 as part of the Club's regular Saturday morning coaching sessions, with the aim of giving predominantly newer bowlers a taste of competition to help prepare them to represent the Club in our other teams. It was a huge success, with Hawks (Angie Aspinall, Steve Baulsom and John Horner) being the inaugural winners, triumphing over Merlins (Ady Aspinall and Ken Bulpitt) in the final.
For 2026, the newly named Kangaroo League will see 12 teams battle it out on Saturday mornings over 14 ends under Aussie Pairs rules - two players per side from each team, each one playing lead and skip roles by virtue of the first of the pair bowling the first two and the last two woods on each end, the second bowling all four woods inbetween, and then swapping over for the next end. All games should start at 11.00 am (unless told otherwise), and players should arrive at least 15 minutes beforehand. The season kicks off on 9 May.
The 12 teams are: Dingos, Koalas, Wombats, Kookaburras, Wallabies, Platypuses, Tasmanian Devils, Crocodiles, Emus, Quokkas, Bilbies and Kangaroos. The squads for each of the teams and the fixture list are in the .pdfs at the bottom of the page.
Most teams have three players but, owing to the sizable demand, some have four. If further people want to play, we will add to the teams of three but no team will have more than four. Each team will need to elect a captain who will be responsible for making sure all players know when they are playing.
