Sunday competitions
There are several one-day competitions scattered throughout the season in which Club members are matched against each other in a variety of formats.
Club Drawn Pairs
In 2025, this took place on Sunday 4 May; and was won by Tom Smith and Rob Furniss, beating Cathy Hopwood and David Hamilton 8-4 in the final - see separate news story. The 2026 competition was due to take place on 31 May, but was cancelled.
Club Triples (Drummond Wolf Cup)
This trophy is named after H.M.C Drummond-Wolf, another former MP for the town.
In 2026, the competition took place on 17 May. Due to being two players short on the day, two of the teams played pairs against triples, which wasn’t ideal but ensured the day went ahead as planned. Three games of six ends went ahead with four teams qualifying for the semi finals which saw Anne and Steve Trim against Judith and Roger Coveney; and Francis Bass, Geoff and Steve Baker against Anne Horner, David Hamilton and Les Reeves.
Both semi-finals were played over eight ends, with Judith and Roger, and Anne, David and Les, reaching the final. Two ends into the final, rain temporarily stopped play but we continued after a short break in light rain. Some great shots were played in trying conditions but, after eight soggy ends, Roger and Judith emerged victorious.
Well done to all players, and special thanks go to Cynthia Hamilton as competition secretary for organising the day, especially with players dropping out over the previous few days, and two bowlers not turning up on the day.
With thanks to Cindy for contributing the report.
George Hacking Memorial Trophy
This trophy is named after the father-in-law of current member and former Club president, David Hamilton, and has been competed for since 1992. For most of its life it has been a 2-wood competition but, for 2025, the format was switched to a 3-wood.
The 2025 competition took place on Sunday 8 June, with the winners being Sue Milton and Liz and Even Lewens, beating Les Reeves, Dave Clipsom and Jon Gibson 5-4 in a keenly contested final - see separate news story.
In 2026, this competition will now take place on Sunday 30 August - thank you to those who signed up for the earlier date.
Invitation Pairs
The 2025 competition took place on Sunday 6 July, with Lesley Taylor and Robin Kingston edging out Andy Carnegie and Cindy McLaughlin in the final - see news story. The 2026 competition will be on 12 July.
Bradley Memorial Trophy
Open to women bowlers within the Club, the Trophy matches entrants with the format being singles. The trophy is named in honour of Mrs. Bradley, first president of Andover Ladies, and took place on 24 August. In a day of well-fought competition, Cindy McLaughlin emerged triumphant on the day, edging out Lesley Taylor on the final end - see the news story. This will take place in 2026 on 2 August.
Sid Butler Trophy
The counterpart to the Bradley Memorial Trophy, this competition is open to men bowlers in a singles format. Introduced in 1980, the cup is named after the Club president at the time. The competition took place on Sunday, 3 August and was won by Steve Trim, who beat Andy Brown in the final - see separate news story. The 2026 competition will take place on 9 August.
