Salisbury & District League
Andover Bowling Club is a founder member of this association, which was set up in 1914, alongside Shaftesbury and Salisbury. The association affiliates five other bowling clubs around Salisbury. There is a men’s league and a women’s league, but no divisions: all teams play each other home and away during the course of the season.
Each match in the men’s league consists of four triples and lasts 18 ends. In the women’s league, matches are constituted of three triples.
In the men’s league, matches are played on Mondays and Thursdays and all with a start time of 6.15; in the women’s league, matches are played mostly on Monday or Thursday evenings (start-time: 6.00) with one match taking place on a Saturday afternoon.
A separate trophy is awarded to the team featuring the highest winning triple during the season. In 2026, this was achieved by the Andover Lions triple of Pete Anthony, Mick Corden and Andy Payne, who chalked up a mighty 40-5 score against Pewsey Blues on 16 July.

In 2026, Salisbury defended their 2025 title with two fixtures left to play, and by the impressive margin of 13 points - congratulations to them - while Lions have now been confirmed as runners-up, five points ahead of Pewsey Red in third, and with Eagles in sixth place, just one point behind Alderbury.

The women's team completed the 2026 season again in third place, behind Salisbury (champions) and Amesbury, while ending up with the highest scoring triple across the season: Jackie Kingston, Linda Sturt and Lesley Taylor having chalked up a 31-3 score against Wilton on 30 July.
Herbie Turner Cup
This competition exists for clubs affiliated to the Salisbury & District Association. Uniquely, it takes place between the teams drawn against each other home and away simultaneously: each team supplying two rinks which play at home and two which play away. A quick call at the end of the match between the team captains sees the scores totalled up and, if there is a tie in the scores, further ends are played.

In the first round matches in the 2026 season, Eagles and Lions were drawn to play each other, Lions coming out on top in a hard-fought tie 63-58. Lions played Salisbury in the next round, but unfortunately were defeated, while the other SF was between Alderbury and Wilton, the latter being the winners. The final took place on 8 August between Salisbury and Wilton, and was won by Salisbury who thus did the league and cup double this season.
Women's Aussie Pairs
In the S&D Aussie Pairs tournament, Jackie Kingston and Lesley Taylor triumphed in the final at Wilton on 12 September, defeating Ruth Canham and Caz Sandler, from Amesbury, 14-12.
Women's Singles
Jackie Kingston reached the semi-final this year, where she was beaten 22-17 by Ros Corke from Wilton after 27 ends.
Women's Two Woods
After defeating our own Judith Towerton in the semi final, Jackie Kingston went on to the final at Wilton on 12 September, unfortunately losing 18-10 to Vanessa McCormack from Amesbury.
Women's Pairs
Anne Hughes and Linda Sturt advanced to the semi-final where they played a pair from Amesbury, but were defeated by the narrow margin of 18-13.
Women's Triples
Jackie Kingston, Cindy McLaughlin and Lesley Taylor, and Cathy Hopwood, Elainne Piper and Lol Bradbury won their semi final against Wilton 36-21 on aggregate, going on to face Salisbury in the final, played on S&D Finals Day at Wilton on 12 September. The triples, with Tracy Howard substituting for Cindy, sadly lost in the final by an aggregate score of 36-28.
