National and county competitions
As well as the three district leagues in which we field teams, Andover Bowling Club also participates in the county competitions run under the auspices of Bowls Hampshire, to which association we affiliate annually..This gives us the chance to participate as a Club at this level against teams from right across the county, while individual members are also entitled to enter Bowls Hampshire competitions.
Matches arranged at Club level for 2026 are as follows:
Tony Allcock Trophy
Sun 10 May (1030) Andover 46 v 25 Yateley B.
This is a mixed competition for two rinks for the over 60s. Les Reeves, Sue Milton, Lesley and Robin Kingston lost 13-21; while Jackie Kingston, Cindy McLaughlin, Gordon and Pete Anthony won 33-4. Andover thus progress and will play away at either Cove or Basingstoke; match to be played by 7 June.
National 2 Fours
Sun 3 May (1030): Andover 34 v 35 Yateley A
Pete Anthony's rink - Les Reeves, Mick Corden, Ray Cozze and Pete - lost 8-24; Tony Guy's rink - Andy Carnegie, Simon Timms, Gordon Bazley and Tony - won 26-11: thus a defeat, by the slimmest of margins sees Yateley A progress.
Mixed Top Club
Sun 7 Jun: Littleton 1 v 4 Andover
This is an event which takes place over five competitions, with the result being a sizable win for Andover. Well done everyone!
Men’s singles: Andy Carnegie won 21-7
Women's singles: Jackie Kingston lost 21-14
Mixed pairs: Robin Kingston/Lesley Taylor won 21-18
Mixed triples: Les Reeves, Cindy McLaughlin and Gordon Bazley won 15-10
Mixed rinks: Sue Milton/Nickie Furniss/Ray Cozze/Peter Anthony) won 20-19 on an extra end.
We now play Atherley at home on the 28th June (time TBC)
Men's Top Club
R1 9 May: Liphook 2 v 3 Andover
This match took place over five events, one point scored for each victory.
2 woods: Les Reeves lost 13-14
4 woods: Andy Carnegie won 21-19
Pairs: Ady Aspinall and Robin Kingston lost 14-20
Triples: Jim Catchpole, Dave Bradbury and Tony Guy won 23-8
Rinks: Dave, Mick Corden, Ray Cozze and Gordon Bazley drew 14-14, but won the extra end.
Andover thus won overall and went into the next round, away at Basingstoke Town.
R2 5 Jun Basingstoke Town 2 v 3 Andover. This was a great result against a very strong Basingstoke team.
2 woods: Les Reeves won 15-12
4 woods: Andy Carnegie won 21-19 after 27 ends.
Triples: Mike Hopkins, Simon Sanders and Dave Froude won 15-13
Pairs: Mark Slade and Robin Kingston / Rinks of Dave Bradbury, Glen Peters, Ray Cozze and Gordon Bazley lost two well contested games.
The next round (the QF for Hampshire East/North) will be away against either Cove B or Yateley B, match to be played by 21 June.
County Men's Championship
Thornbery Trophy (women's teams)
Sat 30 May (1400) Andover 50 v 13 Hyde Abbey
The teams were: Cathy Hopwood, Cynthia Hamilton, Cindy McLaughlin and Sue Milton - won 14-9; and Jackie Kingston, Nickie Furniss, Jenny Guy and Lesley Taylor - won 36-4 (which also included a hotshot!!!!). Luckily Annie Horner had come to watch and came on and played when one of our players felt unwell. Well done, everyone and thank you Annie for stepping up!
We have a play on date of 4th July for the next round at home, which will be against either Mayfield Park or Romsey.
Hants and Berks Cup
19 Jun: Andover v Kingsclere (6pm)
This is a knockout competition for three mixed rinks. Gordon Bazley is putting together a list of players (men and women) who are interested in playing: do let him know by Saturday (14 May) if you are interested and he will issue a team selection at the beginning of next week.
At county level, Elainne Piper and Nickie Furniss received their county badges on 13 May after the game at Broadstone Wessex BC against Dorset. They had to represent the county by playing in three home and three away friendly games within a two-year period. These were presented by Women's President Marion Bailey.
Regarding county games, Jackie Kingston has been selected as reserve to play in the county's Johns Trophy squad, while Lesley Taylor and Jackie have been selected to play in the over 60s mixed squad.
