Salisbury & District League

Andover Bowling Club is a founder member of this association, which was set up in 1914, alongside Shaftesbury and Salisbury. The association affiliates five other bowling clubs around Salisbury. There is a men’s league and a women’s league, but no divisions: all teams play each other home and away during the course of the season.

Each match in the men’s league consists of four triples and lasts 18 ends. In the women’s league, matches are constituted of three triples.

In the men’s league, matches are played on Mondays and Thursdays and all with a start time of 6.15; in the women’s league, matches are played mostly on Monday or Thursday evenings (start-time: 6.00) with one match taking place on a Saturday afternoon.

A separate trophy is awarded to the team featuring the highest winning triple during the season. For 2025, this was held for most of the season by a Pewsey Reds triple who chalked up a 35-3 score against a team from Pewsey Blue on 15 May..

The full rules can be found here.

In the men’s league, Andover fields two teams. Each team has its own dedicated page which can be accessed via the menu above or via the following links:

Andover Eagles

Lions ended the 2025 season in third place, while Eagles finished in sixth place.

The women's team ended the season particularly strongly, winning the last four games, for a third place finish overall with only a narrow margin - of just four points - to Amesbury, the champions.

Herbie Turner Cup

This competition exists for clubs affiliated to the Salisbury & District Association. Uniquely, it takes place between the teams drawn against each other home and away simultaneously: each team supplying two rinks which play at home and two which play away. A quick call at the end of the match between the team captains sees the scores totalled up and, if there is a tie in the scores, further ends are played.

The 2025 final saw a win Lions by the tightest of margins - 71-70: see our news release giving the story of the day and so are defending champions.

In the first round matches in the 2026 season, Eagles and Lions have been drawn to play each other.
