Stan Hardman League

This league was set up in the 1980s, and games take place on an afternoon (Thursdays @ 2pm).

Matches consist of mixed triples and each takes place on three rinks. There must be at least one woman and one man playing on each rink.

The league currently consists of 32 teams equally divided into four groups established on a broadly geographical basis. Andover plays in Area 4, with clubs largely from the north and west of the area from Aldermaston down to Whitchurch; and Andover across to Oakley and Basingstoke.

The top two teams in each area qualify for the knock-out stage for the Shield; with the third and fourth placed teams qualifying for the knock-out stage for the Plate. The full rules can be found via the league's 'About Us' page.

Our Stan Hardman team is captained by Jo Brambley. There is a regular roll-up for the team on Tuesdays between 12.00 and 2.00; alongside a further one on a Thursday aftternoon at 2pm for those not competing for the team in a match that afternoon. 2025 fixtures and results (league points won in brackets) are confirmed as follows.

1 May Oakley Admirals 26 v 60 Andover (0-7)

8 May St. Mary Bourne 60 v 41 Andover (5-2)

15 May Andover 31 v 71 Whitchurch (1-6)

22 May Howard Park Saints 69 v 28 Andover (7-0)

29 May Old Basing Gold 52 v 41 Andover (5-2)

The full fixture list for all the four groups in the league is in the attachment at the foot of the page.

Team lists are up in the Clubhouse for the coming matches, so keep your eyes open and mark the game sheet confirming (or not) if you are able to play.

In addition, the team has roll-ups on a Tuesday at 12 noon until 2 o'clock; and from Thursday at 2pm for those not participating in the match. Dress code for roll-ups is casual; club shirts for matches.

Season progress report

Jo Brambley writes: What a wonderful result on Thursday for our first game of the season (Oakley Admirals)! All 3 rinks won, and with a 34 shot difference. A huge 'thank you' to all players as the heat was unbelievable and all who played did remarkably well. Brilliant result!

A good afternoon was spent at St Mary Bourne (despite all the roadworks we did actually arrive in good time). We were runners up, with a win on one rink. Thank you to all who played and well done.

Equally, a huge thank you to all who played in the third match of the season at home to Whitchurch. Despite the weather forecast being favourable for sunshine, it was jolly cold and a bitter 'breeze' cut to the bones! Unfortunately we came second in this match, with one rink scoring a draw, but you all played well and deserved a better outcome. A big 'thank you' to Linda Levett, and her helper Mike, for preparing and making the tea.

Sadly, our fourth match, against Howard Park Saints, had an unfortunate result for Andover with all 3 rinks losing; thank you all who played - we really did try,  but let's hope we can recover some ground in the tables.

We had a good match against Old Basing Gold in our fifth game, and out of a match of two teams Andover were the runners up. We had one winning rink, but unfortunately two rinks had a different result. Everybody who played did exceptionally well, and I must say a huge 'thank you' to all players: extremely good effort put in by every player; unfortunately Old Basing had the run of line, length and luck on the day. Well done all of you, including those whose rink had 'bumps' that needed to be climbed. We must be grateful for our green and the work that goes into keeping that up to the brilliant standards we enjoy.
