Welcome to Chester-le-Street Bowling Club 2023
ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END - FOR NOW.
AS THE 2023 OUTDOOR BOWLING SEASON COMES TO AN END, THE LAST CHANCE TO HAVE A ROLL-UP WILL BE SUNDAY 17 SEPTEMBER, AFTER WHICH THE GREENS WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL MID-APRIL, 2024.
IN THE MEANTIME, ANY ENQUIRIES CAN BE SENT TO THE CLUB SECRETARY VIA THE ONLINE CONTACT FORM.
HOPE TO SEE YOU NEXT YEAR
We are a very friendly club dating back to 1934 with both male and female members, and always extend a warm welcome to anyone interested in playing, whether wanting to just “have a go” or have dusted off their bowls to see if they still have the knack!
The greens have been in constant use all season, although the rain has messed up the fixtures lists a bit!
We continued our twice-weekly "Roll-Up" on Fridays and Sundays 10am 'til noon during the playing season, and casual bowling was also available at these times. In addition, several people wanted to give it a try, or pick up where they left off from long ago, and used our Contact form to arrange a couple of free sessions. Happily, many became full members.
Our clubhouse is located within Riverside Park, Chester-le-Street with a backdrop of the magnificent Lumley Castle, and the River Wear flowing close by.
The club competed in 3 leagues in 2023:
- Monday Pelton Fell & District League
- Tuesday Durham County Bowling Federation Veterans Section (Central Division)
- Thursday Sunderland & District Bowling Association - Howey League
The club also shares its facilities with the Durham Croquet club .
PARKING RESTRICTIONS
Streets in the residential areas near the park are now designated as "Residents Only Permit".
Visitors should therefore park in the Riverside car park for which charges apply.
Please note the car park can be very busy during school holidays or when there is a cricket match on.
