Danbury Bowls Club was founded in 1932 where the bowling green, comprising three rinks, was originally located on Danbury Common opposite The Cricketers Public House. We moved to our present location at Lower Field, Mayes Lane in 1977, increasing the number of rinks to 6.
We have a mixed membership of full and social members. New members of all bowling levels are welcome to join. If you have never bowled before why not come along to one of our open days held in May and give it a try? We have qualified coaches at the club for instruction and training.
The clubhouse has a licensed bar and a separate building that houses the changing rooms. The bowling green is of county standard and with the help of our green keeper and manager it improves year after year.
A range of bowling is provided which include club afternoons on Monday and Wednesday with a Friday late afternoon game followed by fish & chips in the clubhouse. Social events and friendly matches with visiting clubs take place throughout the season. We enter teams in the Central Mid-Week league, the Chelmsford & District league together with the Chelmer Ladies Triples league. Inter Club competitions, for players of all levels, are held each year with a presentation lunch at the end of the season. A club tour is also arranged every other year.
During the closed season social events are held at the club. Friendly matches are arranged at various indoor clubs in the area. We also enter a team in the indoor/outdoor league, held at The Jacks Centre Indoor Bowling Club in Latchingdon.
The club is affiliated to the following organisations;
Essex County Bowling Association (Incorporating ECBA & ECWBA)
Chelmsford & District Bowling Association
Central Midweek Bowling League
