GROUND WATER LEVEL Farringdon Borehole (116/17 Lower Farringdon could Flood)

27th February (8am)  115.24

++++    FLOOD ALERT FOR GROUNDWATER FLOODING  HAS BEEN ISSUED   ++++

From the Environment Agency (20/2/2024) In response to recent rainfall, groundwater levels have risen above the level that requires early awareness and the level at which a groundwater flood alert is issued, determined from the Farringdon borehole in the Alton, Chawton and Lower Farringdon areas. The groundwater level is higher than normal at this location and is currently slowly rising. The catchment remains sensitive to rainfall due to saturated ground and levels may continue to increase as we receive further rainfall. A groundwater flood alert was issued on 09 January 2024 for the areas at risk of groundwater flooding in Alton, Chawton and Lower Farringdon and this will remain in force. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide an update as this changes.

PLEASE PLAN AHEAD - Document below (from The Environment Agency) is a Personal Flood Plan for you to fill in.

** In the event of a flood, the resident is responsible for protecting their property from flood water **

For Flood Advice see 'Our Village' / 'Flooding' for lots of information and to sign up to Flood Alerts.

BRIGHTSTONE LANE - lots of gravel in the dip after all the rain.

SELBORNE ROAD POTHOLES - The very bad potholes opposite last fence (Past Goslings) has been filled. However there is another nasty one the way to Alton on the Caker Stream bridge dip before Farm & Country.

GASTON LANE / BARLEYWOOD LANE - CLOSED -  Due to immediate safety concerns HCC made the difficult decision to close the road to ensure continued highway safety. Our structures team carried out a formal inspection the follow day and confirmed in their opinion the brick culvert under the road was dangerous and therefore the road should remain closed - they have now installed water filled barriers in an effort to prevent them from being moved. I should point out the culvert here is not safe for vehicles to drive over in its current state. (email from HCC)

B3004 CLOSED (SSEN Alton to Bordon Project), diversion via Selborne except HGVs who have a 16 mile detour via the A32. Should there be an emergency, residents and businesses are encouraged to call 105, rather than calling any community phone number or emailing any community inbox. This number is also placed on the SSEN Permit Board for road users to see. This number is for all power cuts and emergencies and will ensure the emergency is dealt with as swiftly as possible.

Brightstone Lane Closed 2nd April 0930-1530 (Openreach).
