Disputes Between Neighbours

Godshill Parish Community Disputes Between Neighbours

Most of us want to enjoy a peaceful, friendly life in our community. From time to time, though, living close to one another can lead to misunderstandings or disagreements. Things like noise, fences, trees, pets, or parking can become stressful if they are not talked through early and calmly.

Please be aware that the Parish Council is not able to step in to resolve disputes between neighbours, especially where the issue is on private land. Even so, there are organisations that can offer advice, guidance, and support.

Where You Can Find Help

If you are finding things difficult with a neighbour, you may find helpful guidance on the Isle of Wight Council website: Anti-social behaviour

You can also call the Isle of Wight Council contact centre on 01983 821000 if you would like further advice.

You may also wish to contact your Isle of Wight Councillor, James Whelan (james.whelan@iow.gov.uk), who may be able to point you in the right direction or suggest other sources of support.

Please note that the Isle of Wight Council is not able to intervene in personal neighbour disputes or family disagreements that are based on individual opinions or prejudices. Where possible, these matters are often best approached through calm communication, mediation, or independent legal advice.

A friendly conversation, approached with patience and understanding, can often make a real difference and help keep our community a pleasant place for everyone.
