Traffic Order requests
A Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) is a legal document used by local authorities to manage road use, including speed limits, parking rules, and vehicle weight limits.
The parish council has no legal powers to alter any road or traffic conditions, however, the parish council submits requests for reviews when needs arise within the parish.
Reviews or requests typically take place annually and are handled by the Highways Authority (Isle of Wight council) and their main contractor (Island Roads)
Below are requests for review that the parish council has submitted including the status.
1st October 2025 - Yarborough Close
My name is Carl Donoclift and I am the vice chairman of Godshill Parish Council.
Recently we have had a number of complaints regarding parking in the Yarborough Close, Godshill area.
Parking has always been an issue around the Doctors Surgery, however has become exasperated with the building of the new Captiva development behind Yarborough Close.
There have been a number 'heated' conversations on the Yarborough Close turning off the Newport road.
This part of Yarborough Close, for most of the day, is effectively a single track road.
When turning off the Newport road into the Close, if a car is met coming the other way, it is impossible to back up as it takes the reversing driver back onto the main Newport road.
The oncoming driver has to back a significant distance up Yarborough Close to make way.
As I have said it has caused a lot of arguments between drivers, with a few cars having to reverse out of Yarborough Close onto the Newport road with a huge potential for an accident…………..etc etc

14th July 2025 - Sandford / Godshill approach
My name is Carl Donoclift, Vice Chair of Godshill Parish Council.
On behalf of Godshill Parish Council and the parishioners of Godshill, I would like to apply for a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) to be raised.
On the approach from Sandford to Godshill on the A3020 is a 30mph limit after the Godshill boundary sign, as far as the 20mph limit at the edge of the High street part of the village.
Drivers pay little or no notice of the poorly placed 30mph signs when entering the village boundary. Vehicle speeds have been measured at 50mph and even 60mph over this stretch of road.
We have lost track of the number of wild and domestic animals that have been killed by drivers over this section of road.
The 30mph speed signs spend most of the year overgrown and barely visible.
The 30mph Solar sign, on the Godshill side of the Godshill Park Farm entrance hasn't worked for over a year despite numerous requests for repair or replacement.
There has been a numerous near misses with pedestrians, Horses and cycalists crossing over from Godshill Park Farm to Moor farm bridalways (Squirrel trail crossing the A 3020) as road crossing vision is very poor and traffic is moving far too quickly.
Historically there has been accidents with residents trying to get out of driveways.
We would like the TRO application to include re positioning of the 30mph speed limit signs or better still, additional 30mph road signs coming into the village.
We would like the TRO application to include replacement of the 30mph Solar speed limit sign. Repalcement with something that is is reliable and far more noticable.
We would like the TRO application to include 'rumble strips' and better road markings from the Godshill park Farm entrance as far as the 20mph speed limit signs.
The traffic needs to be slowed down before it reaches the 20mph speed limit. This is an appallingly dangerous piece of road.

29th October 2025 - A3020 Newport Road
On behalf of Godshill Parish Council, I would like to make a TRO application to reduce the speed limit on the A 3020 Newport Road out of Godshill toward Newport.
The TRO would require the speed limit to be reduced from 50mph to 40mph.
There have been numerous near misses where people living in the properties at the Newport end of the 50mph speed limit have had to pull out of their drives with cars coming around the blind corner at 50mph.
The TRO would also include a sign before the corner warning of emerging traffic and to slow down.
The TRO and the others applied for by Godshill Parish Council are in keeping with the Police Commissioner’s focus on road safety which is one of her top priorities.
