to give more time for the accounts to be finalised and examined. The motion was carried

9. THE PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS:
This year has proved to be another successful year for Halling Gardening Society. A flyer detailing
all the events planned for 2024 was delivered to every household in Halling in partnership with
Halling Historical Society. The events included seed swapping, dahlia splitting, cutting classes, a
plant sale and a boat trip to Allington Castle. This trip was highly successful. Appropriately, the
gardeners at the Castle were also our historical guides.
The annual plant sale at The Five bells was again a great success and our thanks go to the
landlord at The Five Bells and all those that helped.
Both the Spring and Autumn shows were well attended and exhibits were better than anticipated
considering some adverse weather conditions, including exceptional rainfall.
I would like to thank all of the Committee for their commitment and hard work throughout the year
and, as ever, to all you members of HGS who are the lifeblood of the Society. Your support during
the past year has helped the year such a success.
Chris Beaney, President
10. PRESENTATION OF CUPS AND TROPHIES:
The President continued with the presentation of cups and trophies and prize money. Individual
members were congratulated on their achievements.
11. NOMINATIONS FOR COMMITTEE:
Thanks were given to the existing committee members. Nominations for new committee members
were sought and the President asked for members to think about this during the refreshment
break.
REFRESHMENTS
A quiz was held during the refreshment period. Wine, cheese and biscuits were available.
Thanks to Matt Wells for organising this. Thanks also to Barbara and David Hopkins for making
the tea and coffee and bringing delicious sausage rolls.
Version 4 – revised 16 October 2025
12. ELECTION OF NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
The current Committee members all agreed to be nominated again. The re-election of Phil
Badman, Pat Catchpole, David Hopkins, Barbara Hopkins, Barbara Mead, Matt Wells and Tania
Young was unanimously agreed.
Kaeren Daunt-Jones volunteered to serve on the Committee. This was unanimously agreed.
13. FUTURE EVENTS:
Various ideas were discussed. Jenny Glanfield had sent an email yesterday with some proposals.
These will be discussed at the next Committee meeting.
It was agreed that a leaflet outlining these events with dates should again be produced and
circulated to households in Halling, probably in January 2025, in conjunction with Halling Historical
Society. Phil Badman asked for volunteers to deliver the leaflets, which should take about an hour
per volunteer.
Dates for the events will be agreed at the next Committee meeting.
14. ANY OTHER BUSINESS:
Trophies – Some cups and shields are rather tatty so approval was sought to gradually replace
them, probably two each year. There was unanimous approval for the Committee to consider this.
Nigel Dyer asked if a budget had been identified for the replacement programme. Chris Beaney
said that the Committee would decide how much to spend.
15. QUESTION TIME:
No questions were asked
16. QUIZ AND RAFFLE
The quiz answers were given and the raffle was drawn.
The President thanked everybody for attending and the meeting closed at 9.20pm.
