HALLING GARDENING SOCIETY

MINUTES OF COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON 13th OCTOBER 2025 from 7.30 pm at Manor Farm

1. PRESENT:  Pat Catchpole, Phil Badman, David Hopkins, Barbara Mead and Matthew Wells.

2. APOLOGIES:  Kaeren Daunt-Jones, Barbara Hopkins 

3. MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON 11th August 2025

The minutes of the last meeting were agreed.

 4. TREASURER'S REPORT

Current account         40.61

Reserve account     3802.82

Cash               247.83

Total             4091.26

The cash amount is higher than usual as it includes show prize money of £146.60 that will be distributed at the AGM.

5. AUTUMN SHOW 7 SEPTEMBER 2025

The show had been very successful with more entries than anticipated.  The standard of exhibits was good.  Comments made by the judges and members were considered and the following agreed:

Phil will update the website to reflect current guidance consistent with the schedules

The schedules will clearly state that section A is for members only

Carrot top length on Autumn schedule will increase to 3 inches/7cm

Recipes will form part of the schedule, not be on a separate sheet

6. AGM 3 NOVEMBER 2025

Committee to meet at 7.00pm to prepare the hall. Pat will sort out the poster and raffle prizes. Matt will sort out nibbles and quiz

David and Barbara H will sort out other refreshments. Prior to AGM, Pat will email members to ask for committee nominations.

Barbara M will correct the 2024 AGM minutes and send to Pat asap, together with 2025 agenda.  Barbara M will also send Chris Beaney the notes of this year’s committee meeting to inform his President’s address.

Barbara M offered her apologies for the AGM.

7. 2026 PROGRAMME OF EVENTS

The following were discussed and may form part of the programme:

Seed swap 25 January or 1 February

Trip to Cooling’s production nursery – David will try for 28th April

Stoneacre trip - National trust members free, others £8.80.  David will check the details

Plant sale 6 June 10.00 to 12.00

Dahlia dig and split at Pat’s (members only) 

Possible revisit to Restoration House

Include a visit to NGS gardens

8. SPRING SHOW SCHEDULE 2026

The theme will be Wales.  The schedule was revised.  Barbara M will incorporate changes and circulate to the committee for checking. Pat advised that Jean is unable to judge at this show due to a prior commitment.  Pat will contact a judge at Gravesend to see if she is available.         

9. ANY OTHER BUSINESS

There was no other business.
