Hartlip Village Design Statement 2026
Hartlip Parish Council
Hartlip Village Design Statement formally adopted
Hartlip Parish Council formally adopted the Hartlip Village Design Statement (VDS) on 9 September 2026.
The VDS has been prepared to provide a clear, locally based description of Hartlip’s character and to help ensure that future development respects and protects the qualities that make the village distinctive.
A key objective of the document is to help protect Hartlip’s rural identity, landscape setting, heritage, important views, village approaches and settlement character by ensuring that future development is informed by a proper understanding of the village and responds sensitively to its established character.
The VDS brings together detailed evidence on Hartlip’s landscape setting, settlement pattern, Conservation Area, heritage assets, important public views, open spaces, Public Rights of Way and relationship with the surrounding countryside.
The adopted VDS was formally submitted to Swale Borough Council on 16 September 2026 so that it can be taken into account as locally specific evidence in future planning and plan-making decisions affecting Hartlip.
The document will also support the Parish Council when responding to future planning proposals where the character, landscape or heritage of the village may be affected.
The adopted Hartlip Village Design Statement can now be viewed in full on the Council website.
