Committees and Working Groups

Hoo St Werburgh and Chattenden Parish Council operates a Working Party/Committee system to support the management of Parish Council business and projects. These groups are made up of Parish Councillors who undertake detailed background work to assist the Council in making informed decisions on behalf of the community.

The Parish Council currently operates the following committees and working groups:

  • Finance, Audit and General Purposes Committee
  • Planning Committee
  • Environmental Committee

Additional working groups may also be established from time to time for specific projects or areas of work.

The role of these groups includes:

  • Reviewing projects and proposals
  • Considering quotations, reports and supporting information
  • Undertaking research and preliminary discussions
  • Monitoring ongoing projects and operational matters
  • Making recommendations to Full Council

These groups do not generally have delegated authority to make binding decisions on behalf of the Parish Council. All formal decisions, expenditure approvals and policy matters are determined by the Full Parish Council at properly convened public meetings.

Recommendations are presented to Full Council together with the relevant background papers and supporting information to allow all councillors to fully consider the matter before a decision is made.

As these are advisory working meetings undertaking preparatory and background work, they are not generally public meetings and do not form part of the Parish Council’s formal decision-making process.
