Golden Glory for Ipswich Bowls Star Katherine Rednall
Commonwealth Games champion inspires next generation as club opens its doors to newcomers
Ipswich is celebrating after local bowls star Katherine Rednall claimed gold at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, becoming the Women's Singles Champion following a superb performance in the final.
Representing England, Rednall defeated Guernsey's Alison Merrien 2–0 to secure the title, becoming just the third English woman to win the Commonwealth Games Women's Singles crown.
The Ipswich & District Indoor Bowls Club member produced a composed and commanding display throughout the tournament. Having already overcome a tough semi-final, she once again demonstrated the skill, determination and consistency that have made her one of the world's leading players, capping off the competition with a deserved gold medal.
Everyone at Ipswich & District Indoor Bowls Club has expressed immense pride in Rednall's latest achievement.
A club spokesperson said: "Katherine's success is an incredible moment for the club and for Ipswich. She has worked tirelessly to reach the top of the sport and continues to be a fantastic ambassador for bowls. We couldn't be prouder of what she has achieved, and we look forward to celebrating this special occasion with her."
Inspired by Katherine's Commonwealth Games success? The club is encouraging anyone who has been thinking about trying a new sport to come along to a free 'Try Bowls' evening this Friday at 6pm.
With the winter months just around the corner, indoor bowls offers an enjoyable way to stay active, meet new people and enjoy a sport suitable for all ages and abilities. Whether you're completely new to the game or looking to return after some time away, everyone is welcome.
Ipswich & District Indoor Bowls Club will provide all the equipment needed on the night. Those attending are simply asked to wear comfortable clothing and bring a pair of clean, flat-soled shoes to protect the indoor bowls carpet.
The free session begins at 6pm on Friday 7th August, and club members will be on hand to offer guidance and introduce newcomers to the sport.
Following Katherine Rendall’s historic Commonwealth Games triumph, there could hardly be a better time to discover why bowls continues to inspire players of all ages – and perhaps even take the first step on a journey of your own.
