A new photograph been added to the Station Road & Railway Station page, in the around Alton section of the website.

The photo was taken by someone on platform 1, looking across the track towards platform 2. It appears that this train and others had been diverted down to Alton and on to the Mid Hants line as a new bridge was being built over the mainline east of Farnborough. I often say whenever a train features in an image, trains are not my specialist subject, luckily someone has researched this class of train and created a website to share this information.

The train at platform 2 is being pulled by the SR Merchant Class locomotive 35019 ‘French Line CGT’, which was built at the Southern Railway Eastleigh Works in June 1945. It was rebuilt in May of 1959, during which time the side panels were permanently removed. 35019 remained in service until September 1965, when it was withdrawn from service and sold to a breakers yard, where it was scrapped in January 1966.
