St Mary's Anglican Chapel

In 1910, the Anglican Community of St. Mary the Virgin, Wantage, bought a house called Highfield on Turk Street to open a residential training centre for women and girls, who, in the wording of the day, were considered 'feeble-minded'. A chapel designed by William Douglas Caröe and built by D.J. Kemp of Alton was added in 1913.

The Reredos in the first image was designed by in 1935 by W.D.Caroe for St Mary's, Alton, in memory of a former Sister Superior. They were saved when the Chapel closed and are now located in St Mary's Church, Somers Town, NW1.
