This matters to Nonington.

The Proposed Scale of  Development

The HELAA earmarks a further 1227 housing unit in Aylesham, joining Aylesham to Snowdown.  It allocates another 705 houses for Elvington, 260 in Eastry, and 1150 additional new houses in Sandwich.700 houses for Elvington, 260 in Eastry, another 1150 in Sandwich.  Not all will land provisionally allocated will necessarily make it to the LDP.  Much of it will.  Collectively, Aylesham, Elvington, Eastry and Sandwich account for 43% of all new potential housing units across the whole Dover district not already in the 2010 LDP.  These site have significant traffic impact on Nonington.

The Changing Planning Laws

Land included in a Local Development Plan has a presumption of approval for development.  This is subject to the scrutiny of the planning application process where we have the right to object.  The UK government policy seeks to make the most fundamental change to UK planning since 1948.  Set to become law in 2021,  under these proposal there will no longer be any mechanism to object to any planning application on land allocated for development in the Local Development Plan.  Therefore, this Local Development Plan public consultation exercise may be the only democratic opportunity for local people to influence development of the land in their area until the next LDP HELAA in around 10 years.

Protect your village

Your Parish Council is working to safeguard the future of the village. To support these efforts and to make sure your voice is heard, we need your help.  We will be creating a petition and working with other Parish Councils to fight the development plans but we are also asking each and every one of you to write to your MP to register your concern.

If you would like to find out more about what we are doing or how to make your voice heard please get in touch.

Following a meeting on 4th November 2020 it was decided to form a separate group to challenge the proposed housing developments in and around Nonington. The group consists of:
